What's common among these: Brad Pitt, Paris Hilton, and Going Green? Depending upon your measuring scale, all are hot. I mean, they are in vogue. You can go light green, even lightest shade of it, and you'll still be hot. You will be a fashion icon. A very natural and intelligent mind like mine would then ask, "what if Paris Hilton and Brad Pitt together throw a green party?" Then the only correct answer would be, "That's too hot." Now, how do they throw a green party? By offering food items that have "low carbon labels".

What's that? Carbon labeling is a means to give consumers an idea of how much impact that product is making on environment. Higher values mean higher impact (and that is bad). Tropicana just announced to start labeling its juices. Cadbury-Schweppes, and Tesco, have begun introducing "carbon labeling" on products. So have many others. Soon you and I will be labeled too. ...

When one sees a headline like Report: “Nearly $500 billion spent in U.S. on substance abuse, addiction” what thoughts do usually come to mind? That we are doing very well on this front and that we have achieved something during recent times are some of them? Actually, the results in the detailed report speak otherwise.

In 2005 it cost $500 billion to US government for substance abuse, addiction and its consequences. Compared this to Iraq war costs – these numbers are not comparable for various reasons but they do show the order of damage. In 2005 the Iraq war cost was less than $500 billion! So there is a less costly war we hear so much about and then there is a more expensive that goes unnoticed until a headline comes and goes by.

One argument, albeit very weak, that is made on such a topic is Iraq war costs us lives. Trust me when I repeat the ...

Have you ever felt a nagging of your conscience when you had a sip of water from your plastic water bottle or when you had a chance to see the dustbins at a scenic spot flooded with these? If your answer is yes! Read on and be delighted.

The environment that we share has been affected and we are the major culprits. In answer to the plastic water bottles, the paper water bottle emerges as an eco – product made of recycled material. They aim at decreasing the usage of these plastic bottles and an increased usage of these will lead to a cleaner environment. Americans throw 60 million plastic bottles on an average per day. Statistics claim only that 14% of them are recycled. So, the rest of it ends on the earth as litter. According to National Association for Pet Container Resources (NAPCOR), 2.7 million tons of plastic PET bottles hit the shelves in the ...

Can you remember those monotonous blood-tests for studying the proteins, waiting for a few hours for the results and then dredging to collect your report? We are sure cancer and heart patients understand exactly what we are mentioning here. Imagine the plight of the technicians who were required to analyze sample after sample. Well, there is good news, “A ten-minute blood test, to study the proteins”.

Blood is a reliable basis for diagnostics, clinically. Proteins in the blood are normally measured to determine the cancer-risk, to monitor the health of those people suffering from chronic disease and the health of the aged. Usually, it is a cumbersome and a painful process as it requires blood to be taken and analyzed on a regular basis, not to mention that it is expensive too.
